There are lots of great off-the-shelf CMS tools out there. We've used most of them at one time or another.

It's our experience that most of these one-size-fits-all installations often do not fit the needs of end users and staff quite as well as they provide convenience to designers. It’s tempting to throw a free widget at a problem and call it solved, but frequently it seems this approach causes more disappointment and frustration over the long run.

Please don't be mistaken—an off-the-shelf CMS can be a great solution for many situations, we just don't feel it's the best. We're perfectionists about our work: if something can be done better, it should be done better.

A custom content management system allows much greater flexibility and simplicity — and gives the opportunity to make changes and grow the tool as we come to a more natural and organic understanding of the way users and staff are interacting with the site.

How easy are our systems to use?

One of our clients had a new staff member who was taking over the management of the web site. They contacted us asking for some training for the new hire. Within an hour after we emailed back to schedule a session, the new employee called and said they didn't need it—everything made perfect sense once they logged in.
